Research into the people who modelled for Tom Roberts
paintings "Bailed Up" and 'The Golden Fleece – Shearing at Newstead" has been in
progress for over 10 years, largely the remarkable work of the late Mrs Muriel
Bryan.
Various people have been identified and verified, however the Festival
Committee would be interested in receiving any further information people may
have in connection with these two paintings. Some of the names being researched
are:- Bates, Caldow, Danes, Frame, Hoey, Kerr, Lamrock, Lloyd, Mann, Pennell,
Schuman, Weiss, White.

PEOPLE AT 'NEWSTEAD' AND 'PARADISE' STATIONS
These properties were large holdings with many employees.
Tom Roberts stayed at both places during his visits to the district during the
1890’s. If you have records of family members who were born, married or died at
either place, or relevant family stories, documents, or photos of the people who
lived and worked there at any time, we would like to hear from you. This is your opportunity to contribute your story and help
build a fuller picture of life at Newstead and Paradise. |
